Man Robs Restaurant Where He Works, Police are investigating an overnight robbery at a restaurant near VCU. The suspect came in with a gun and pantyhose over his face just before 2:30 a.m. Friday at Bodillaz Restaurant off West Broad Street. Police say the restaurant was already closed when this robber came in, but several employees were still cleaning up inside.
Students say Bodillaz is a decent place to get a quick meal just a block away from VCU’s campus. Keith Oliver lives nearby and used to work at a convenience store. He knows what it’s like to be staring down the barrel of a gun.
“I just think about the night I was robbed,” Oliver said. “I know what it’s like, working, trying to do your job so you can make some money and someone comes in and puts a gun in your face.”
Police won’t say how much money this man got away with. Several people we spoke to nearby say it’s hard to imagine someone could get away with much money from a quesadilla restaurant.
“I hate when someone stoops so low,” he said. “(Someone) comes in while a person is trying to work, trying to make a living, for what? For nothing.”
Scott Gibbel works right across Broad Street. He says he’s surprised someone would rob this restaurant considering how many people pass by on Broad Street even early in the morning.
“I was a little shocked someone had the courage to make a move like this right on the main drag here near the university,” Gibbel said.
Investigators say fortunately no one was hurt.
Right now there is only a vague description of the suspect. If you have any information that can help police, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers. The number is 780-1000.
