15-year-old swimmer wins gold,Lithuanian 15-year-old Ruta Meilutyte won gold in the Olympic women's 100m breaststroke final in London on Monday.
Meilutyte (1:05.47) fought off a late challenge from American defending champion Rebecca Soni (1:05.55) while Japan's Satomi Suzuki (1:06.46) was third.
She is only the fourth Lithuanian to win an Olympic gold.
Leisel Jones, the first Australian swimmer to compete at four Games, was fifth after clocking one minute and 6.95 seconds.
Jones missed a chance to match Ian Thorpe's Australian record of nine Olympic medals but she will likely get another chance in the 4x100m medley relay.
The 26-year-old had said she was spurred on by accusations during the week that she was out of shape after several unflattering photos were published in Australian media.
She defied expectations just to make the final, after coming into the event with a ranking of 17th in the world this year.
