Kelis taxes:Singer Kelis ordered to pay IRS huge sum in unpaid taxes

Kelis taxes:Singer Kelis ordered to pay IRS huge sum in unpaid taxes,Singer Kelis Ordered To Pay IRS Huge Sum In Unpaid Taxes—Singer Kelis has been ordered to pay IRS huge sum in unpaid taxes. Kelis is far from the only entertainment star to be slapped with a tax lien. Kelis is the latest celebrity to be outed for not paying taxes.

A tax lien was filed against Kelis in New York City. The government is suggesting Kelis failed to pay taxes in 2004 and 2010 respectively. The total she owes for those two years is $330,426.71.

What’s crazy about the situation is Kelis made major bank in the years she didn’t pay her taxes. In 2004, she was the opening act on a Britney Spears tour. Kelis made large sums of money in 2010 when she embarked on a headlining tour with Swedish pop singer Robyn.

In 2004, Kelis went on tour with Britney Spears, while in 2010 the singer embarked on her very first headlining U.S. tour – she’s now in trouble for not paying taxes on those profitable years. She’s currently touring around Europe promoting new music, according to EURweb.

Her ex-husband Nas isn’t doing any better. He was slapped with a tax lien earlier this year for failing to pay taxes in 2010 to the tune of $339,000. The government has reportedly placed a lien on his property.

Unfortunately, it seems that tax problems are the name of the game for celebrities and it’s getting harder and harder to find celebrities who don’t owe back taxes at one time or another.

Most of us regular people get our taxes taken out of our checks, but if you’re in business for yourself, as the majority of these celebrities are, you’re in charge of keeping track of your own finances and how much you owe Uncle Sam. Most celebrities hire an accountant to take care of their finances, so it’s unclear if these celebrities purposely didn’t pay their taxes or if their accountant’s head needs to roll.

In any case, taxes must be paid and it’s hard to feel sorry for Kelis. She married Nas after she didn’t pay taxes in 2004 and they certainly could have covered that bill then.

Even after she divorced him, he was ordered to pay her $600,000 per year in 2009. The rapper got that amount reduced this year, but clearly Kelis has (or at least had) the dough to cover that bill without using a single dime of the money she actually made in 2004 and 2010.

Lauryn Hill is already facing three years in jail for her tax evasion, we don’t want to see Kelis suffering the same fate.

Just last week, Lauryn Hill pled guilty to three counts of tax evasion for not paying taxes from 2005, 2006 and 2007. She faces up to three years in prison and $75,000 in fines.
