Authorities said 61-year-old Fredrick Denney barricaded himself inside his room at the Hampton Inn hotel in Belmont on Saturday, threatening to open fire on police.
Officers were called to the scene after Denney had allegedly caused an unspecified disturbance at the residence early in the morning, according to the station WCNC.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the regional SWAT team, responded to the hotel on Cecilia Alexander Drive.
Officials cordoned off the second floor of the Hampton Inn as they tried to reason with Denny.
When asked what were his demands, the 61-year-old raised a few eyebrows when he asked for pizza and to marry hotel heiress and socialite Paris Hilton.
The tense stand-off that dragged on for several hours finally came to an end when Denney was pepper-sprayed and taken into custody.
Police said it was not Denney’s first run-in with a SWAT team. He had reportedly found himself in similar situations in other states in the past.
According to the Gaston County records, Denney is from Roseburg, Oregon.
The 61-year-old was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation. His bond was set at $90,000.
Denney now faces an intoxicated and disorderly charge, among others.
