Georgina Bloomberg and soda ban,Add Mayor Michael Bloomberg's younger daughter to the list of New Yorkers with doubts about the mayor's plan to ban large size sodas.
The independent-minded Georgina Bloomberg suggested a better method for encouraging healthier eating -- make healthy foods cheaper.
"His intentions are good," the 29-year-old told New York magazine at a social event Thursday night. "And it's the kind of thing the public will thank him for in 20 years. However, people should be allowed to make their own bad choices."
Georgina Bloomberg, a champion equestrian athlete, suggested a better method for encouraging healthier eating -- make healthy foods cheaper.
As a Bloomberg, Georgina zeroed in on an economic solution to combat the obesity epidemic.
"Ideally, he would lower the cost of healthy food instead of banning unhealthy food," she said of her father. "If people were able to afford to eat nutritious food, I think they would make better choices."
Her own refreshment tastes run to a diet soda manufactured by the Coca Cola company, which hasn't heard much good news coming out of a Bloomberg lately.
"I really like Fresca," she said.
Georgina will get a chance to share her thoughts with dad tomorrow at the Yankees-Mets game, which both will be attending with London mayor Boris Johnson.
